KingSpec 128GB SATA SSD 2.5 inch - Speed up to 550MB/s, Internal Solid State Hard Drive 3D NAND Flash, Compatible with Desktop/Laptop/PC Computer

I got this KingSpec SSD to extend the storage on my low spec Mini PC. The package came with just the SSD. Installing the SSD into my Mini PC was easy. After I restarted the PC, the disk did not show in file explorer, this was expected. It showed unallocated under disk management. I initialized it and then went through the new volume setup including formatting it from RAW to NTFS. I will be using this drive mostly to process my photos and store the good ones for quick access. I usually keep multiple backups of my photos, videos or important documents. So, if this drive goes south for some reason, no worries. For normal operations, this SSD should work just fine especially for a low end computer like my Mini PC. The storage capacity is only 128 GB, which is not much especially if you plan to use it for photos and videos. If you are already low on space, I would get a higher capacity SSD. To test the speed, I copied around 24GB of image and video files from my PCIe NVMe external SSD hard drive. The write speed averaged around 226MB/s. Copying the same set of files to the M.2 2280 NVMe SSD C Drive from Samsung, I observed much lower speed. The Mini PC has an Intel Alder Lake N95 processor, a low end processor. So, I did not expect higher speeds. If I had used this SSD in a faster computer, perhaps I would have observed higher write speeds. At this time, I cannot comment on its durability. But for general purpose use, I believe this SSD will work just fine and it costs only $12.

I recently purchased the KingSpec 128GB SATA SSD for my laptop, and I must say, it has really improved its performance. The speed boost is noticeable, and it has definitely improved the overall responsiveness of my system. The speed, advertised at up to 550MB/s, is adequate for everyday tasks and even some light multimedia editing. However, during more demanding workloads, I did notice slight fluctuations in performance. While it's not a deal-breaker, it's something to consider if you plan on using the SSD for resource-intensive tasks regularly. One minor downside is that the SSD did heat up a bit more than I anticipated during extended use. It didn't affect performance, but I would have appreciated better heat dissipation to ensure optimal operating temperatures. Overall, the KingSpec 128GB SATA SSD is a solid option for those seeking an affordable and reliable storage upgrade.

At the time of this review, this is about $12 for 128GB, which is ludicrous. It's amazing how far technology has come. You do get what you pay for-- if you're looking to put this in a high end PC, home NAS/server, etc., then you'd be better off spending a bit more. However, if you have a garage PC, etc. that uses the old HD drives that spin up and are slow to read and write, this will give you a big boost in performance. That's exactly what I used this for-- the shop PC that I use for garage projects and YouTube when my car is in pieces and I forgot how it goes back together. It's starts up much quicker now and was easy enough to copy my old hard drive over with free software. One thing to note is that this uses 3D NAND technology. That basically means they found a way to really cram the 1's and 0's darn near on top of each other. This offers more storage for less money, but is not as robust as some of the other types SSD memory out there and has less read/write cycles before bits may start to go corrupt. For the average user, you're unlikely to ever use this drive enough to see that, but if you're constantly saving large files, this isn't the drive for you. So, average PC user? Good to go. Guy who edits gigabytes of video regularly? Naw, spend a few more bucks on something else.

Pros: It works well for my older laptop with linux. Cons: Size is too small for Windows. Other thoughts: I would not consider this hard drive slow by any means, but it is not super-fast either. But since I am using it on an older laptop, which already has an older sata interface, it ends up working well. Also, 128 Gb is ok for running Linux, but not really enough for Windows. Yes, you can install windows on that space, but you won't have space for anything else.

I have been using this SSD for a couple of months plugged into a USB-SATA adapter (seen in the photo) for 2 purposes mainly. I use it to move files from one PC to another when it's a computer I don't necessarily want on the network, or the files are going between different OS's where it would be a hassle. Good for that. My other use if for trying out new Linux distros without having to reformat one of the laptop or PC's hard drives or SSDs. I just slap the image on this drive and boot from it like a USB drive, just a lot faster. Is it a real high-performance SSD? No, but you can't beat the price, it's much faster than a flash drive and it surely meets my needs. If these are the intended uses for you too, this will work well.

This little SSD drive was exactly what I needed for one of my servers. Sometimes you just need a small drive to run the OS - nothing huge for big storage but still big enough to hold the OS and any logs that might accumulate. I tried this drive in an external USB case (before loading it up for full-time server duty) and was able to load it up just fine. Copies seemed responsive and fast enough. For the price, this little guy looks like a good deal.

Compact design as usual and works great.

This drive works as a SSD it is a little small considering the sizes and costs of flash drives at this point in time - however for a portable PC or micro PC this works well. This is faster than a flash drive for sure also, I would also say more reliable, however it is still small in the way of drives IMO but does its job well.
